There is nothing worse then spending time on doing your hair, and it falling out. I can’t tell you how many times over the years I’ve curled my hair, and by the time I go to my event the curls are gone. I have used countless curling irons and wands, different sprays and methods of curling my hair. Now, I am no hair stylist by any means but I found a method that works and I’m sticking to it. Curl your hair, and make it last!!

Do I Need a High end or Expensive Hot Tool?
No. To simply simplify that, no. To get great looking curls that last you do not need to spend a fortune on an iron or wand. That being said, some metals may be better for your hair (less heat damage), or disperse the heat better. I have had the best success with this drugstore wand and it is usually on sale for less than $20!
I have had high end irons that are highly rated that I have not seen the same success. I recently purchased the GHD iron and I was not a fan for the price. I found the drugstore wand to hold my curl better, and it was a FRACTION of the price.
Do The Curls Last?
My curls last for days. DAYS.
First I start with a blow out of hair. (Check out my post on how to give yourself an at home blowout). I have curled my hair on clean hair, however curls do generally stay better if its on “dirtier” hair, or second day hair.
I always use a heat protectant. I personally love this hair spray, as it holds your hair AND acts as a heat protectant. Its a flexible spray so you can brush through your hair and style it.
I curl in small sections, wrapping the hair around the wand. I think the key is the small sections, and using the smaller barrel size. After curling my entire head I let the curls cool for a while, flip my head upside down and brush them out. You will have a lot of volume, and then I just part my hair and tame them to where I want them to land. They last for days. Just throw some dry shampoo in there the following day to liven up the look and get rid of oils.
Beachy Waves Instead of Curls?
If you are looking for more of a beach/wave look, I love this reverse wand for that. The reverse wand makes it more of a wave and not a tight curl. I love this wand, however it is a pricier wand than the drugstore wand, however I have not been able to find a reverse drug store one that gives these results. I follow the same method of curling/heat protectant to accomplish these waves with this tool.
I love trying new hair tools and experimenting with different looks! I’d love to hear what tools are your favorite so I could try those! If you try this wand out and love it as much as I do, let me know!!
Happy Curling! 🙂
