I love giving a homemade gift. One gift I started making was various mason jar cookie mix recipes. Simply put your favorite recipe in the jar, tie with a ribbon or some holiday fabric and make it a cute DIY gift. You can use recipies for cookies, brownies or even fill will pancake mix and chocolate chips. To finish it off you could write out and attach the full recipe attached with a ribbon or twine.
You will want to make sure you have large enough mason jars. I used 12oz jars but I think it would fit better and look a little nicer in a larger jar. These 16 oz jars would be perfect. Simply layer each dry ingredient and close tightly. Attach the recipe with a list of additional wet ingredients that may be needed to add.
M&M Cookie Mix

1/2 cup brown sugar
3/4 tsp baking soda
5 tablespoons sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup M&M’s
Wet ingredients to add after :
1 large egg
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Beat together in a large mixing bowl the wet ingredients (butter, egg, vanilla). When completely mixed, add in the entire mason jar cookie mix. Refrigerate dough for a half hour.
Scoop dough out to make large balls for cookies and bake for 10 minutes.
If you like these type of DIY gifts or fun desserts to do with the kids, check out my post on how to make hot chocolate bombs. This is an easy recipe that you do not need to buy hot chocolate molds for, I’ll show you how to make them out of tin foil.
I hope you enjoy these cookies, or like this idea for a DIY gift!
